An invasive plant species is a non-native plant introduced to a new environment, where it thrives aggressively and often disrupts the ecosystem. These plants can out-compete native species, alter habitats, and cause ecological harm.

Some invasives commonly found in Quonnie and how to deal with them were highlighted in our Spring/Summer 2025 Tidings Newsletter. Spring is a good time to manage invasives before they begin to spread. Here are some invasives to be on the lookout for that are blooming now:

Garlic mustard can be pulled, and multiflora rose and burning bush should be dug up. For more information on invasives, join us at our July 10th event (details at left) and click this link for Resources – Invasive Plants.

The Quonochontaug Conservation Collaborative (QCC) is a welcoming group of volunteers from across Quonnie’s communities, devoted to raising awareness of the natural wonders and resources Quonnie enjoys.
